The back story

Gapyeong, Nami Island and the Garden of Morning Calm

In depth·Gapyeong

An island of tree-lined avenues in the Bukhangang, and a great garden in the hills: autumn colour within reach of Seoul.

East of Seoul, in Gapyeong county, Nami Island sits in the river, reached by ferry, its avenues of trees famous in autumn (namisum.com). Nearby, the Garden of Morning Calm spreads across a hillside, lit with lights in winter (morningcalm.co.kr).

Getting there

By ITX-Cheongchun train or the Gyeongchun Line to Gapyeong, then by taxi or bus.

Our advice: go on a weekday in late October.
